Round-table Discussion “Salon business 2009: risks and prospects”
Cosmetic Expo Media Company has gathered round-table discussion “Salon business 2009: risks and prospects” on the eve of 2009 and InterCHARM-Ukraine Exhibition.
The purpose of the meeting was the estimating of possibilities of salon business development in the context of world economic crisis which already has began in Ukraine too.
The meeting united well-known Ukrainian brands – prominent players of beauty industry for productive intercourse.
Analysing the market of all the types of salon activities, the participants of the round-table discussion were shared their opinions of today’s situation in the country. As well they were able to develop general strategy of the activity ignoring competition ambitions. Actually nothing can unite people more than possible threats.

Marina Kodynez, the assistant director of Scientific Beauty Academy:
•    Those who will give up today, will be forced to begin with a “zero”. It’ll be very difficult to repair an omission.
•    “Gold time” begins for large companies, if shallow companies will grudge assets for holding their positions, they would begin to pass away or simply die. And what does it mean –the redistribution of the market.
•    It is possible to orient the client on more accessible for him salon procedures. The main thing is not to miss out a client.

Larisa Garsia, the owner of Terra Viva Studio:
•    Do you know that today's situation has a certain plus? Companies will begin to look over commercial strategies. It will be necessary to think how to hold a contact with every user. In fact each user became to make choice more careful.
•    When everything was stable, all of us had made mistake considering that always will be this way. However it won’t be the way it was.
•    However that is not the time for slacking the pace and fall in panic. Vice versa, that is the time for active deeds.
•    We always go to the reliable banks, to the reliable partners. And we must be reliable for the clients. Especially now.
•    I forecast a problem with a growing grey import. Using discounts won’t be enough for fighting against it. That is why it is important to take an aim on service.

Vera Galios, the representative of Vladimir Tarasyuk Holding:
•    Recently general anti-crisis gathering passed in our company. Vladimir Tarasyuk said: “What does take place in salons when autumn come and rain begin? – Clients visit salons less. But only in the first week. And then they used to rain, autumn and return. So let’s behave to the crisis as to the bad weather offensive”. Get used to the situation, it is easy to enter in track.
•    Our company won’t do an accent on discounts. Instead of it we will be concentrated on motivation of positive.
•    Weak brands will pass away and our objective is to catch up their clients.

Irina Medvedeva, the president of the National Ukrainian Competition of Cosmetologists and Aesthetics (VASPE):
•    It is necessary to be thoughtful about a specialist. Supporting him, we retain our client.
•    Not looking at the present condition, we successfully conducted the semifinal of cosmetologists competition. We were afraid that among participants won’t be regions. However our fears were not confirmed. Regions not only arrived but also showed high results.
•    We must pass this crisis together.
•    Participating in InterCHARM-Ukraine is necessary especially now: to show that our industry continues to live and make sure personally, that it is claimed.

Denis Demidov, the leader of Ekolodgic (office in Kiev):
•    Now a talk went by numbers. We show to client the benefit of professional facilities in comparison with mass-market, that seems quite cheap but at the same time not so economical in use. We do it for our client that must carry this information to customers correctly.
•    Here for what I like crisis: all begin to think about activities.

Paulina Yurchenko, the director of Green Light Group:
•    Say “no” to discounts and “yes” to bonuses.
•    Distributors are necessary to support salons not so much by price as by recommendations on a situation. To support salons as the structure of our business, as eventual point, on which survivability of both importer and salon depends on the whole. It is necessary to put yourself at the place of hairdresser or other specialist of salon.
•    All of us are in the beginning of difficult way of overcoming of economic complications. And the only thing that will help us to pass this way is an association in a professional structure that defends interests of salon business at the level of the state. Extraordinarily importance has the fact of our gathering today and trying to find the way out.

Nadezhda Nikityuk, the director of Cosmo-Trade:
•    I have a sense that businessmen already have forgotten that during crisis in 1998 there was not money. And now there is money in a country. It is necessary simply to work better. And first of all – to work!

In the end of meeting Tatyana Fedorova, the general director of Cosmetic Expo Media, took the floor. Her statement was accented on actions that are directed on attraction of greater amount of professionals from all regions of country to the InterCHARM-Ukraine 2009. Organizers extend traditional advertising campaign on many directions. Here are some of them:
•    “Shock-brigade” was organized. It has visited salons in 22 cities in Ukraine
•    Mass postal deliveries
•    Work with adjacent markets
•    Cooperation with educational institution (students and graduators of profile institutes)
•    Buyer’s program
•    Active work on foreign exhibitions.
In the process of “brain storm” the participants of round-table discussion designated the row of important marketing ways and developed general strategy of participating in InterCHARM-Ukraine. Key point, sounding in all guests’ statements: “Crisis doesn’t mean “death of company”!!!  It means that the fight for customer purse must be more competent».
And that means that the result of meeting has come!
